Four Years as a Travel Advisor: Valuable Lessons and Insights Gained

Updated: Dec 28, 2023

The Top 4 Lessons I've Learned in My 4 Years as a Travel Advisor

When I started my travel business in October 2019, I had just finished training on my agency's processes and several suppliers.  I had NO idea what else I would learn next, only that I wanted to continue learning all I could.  Here's some of what I have learned since then:

1.  Crisis Management:

Navigating through a multitude of travel-related hiccups, be it a trip cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances like the pandemic, a missed flight, or the need for urgent rebooking due to unforeseen events. I've honed the art of creative problem-solving. More significantly, I've developed the ability to anticipate potential issues before they arise. This foresight safeguards my clients and saves them from major delays and unnecessary stress.

2.  Destination and Niche Expertise:

Whether it's planning a dream vacation to a cherished theme park, setting sail on a cruise, or discovering a new all-inclusive resort, I am constantly researching new tactics for you to explore, learn, and unwind without the worry of navigating logistics.  This involves not only my personal training and travel experiences but an amazing network of fellow agents within my agency who share insights from their own experiences.

3.  Client/Advisor Communication:

I have spent hundreds of hours meticulously creating client care emails!   My goal is to provide you with comprehensive information to ensure a fantastic trip. These correspondences serve as timely reminders for payment schedules, guidance for making dining reservations, and suggestions for activities or attractions tailored to your interests. This communication cycle spans from the moment you make your booking until you zip up your suitcase for your adventure.

4.  Personalization and Customization:

You'd think that after booking well over 200 trips, there would be some repetition in what I do.  I can honestly say that each trip has its own personality based on the travelers going on it.  It is incredibly rewarding plan these trips and help you create lifelong memories with those you love most!  Each vacation is crafted with YOU in mind yet built on hours of training and experience that I and other clients have had doing similar things.

While I still have a lot to learn, I am thankful grateful to you for entrusting me with your travel plans!  It is truly a joy to do this job, and I cannot wait to see where you want to go next!
