Staying Safe inYour Hotel Room: Part 1

Traveling is an adventure, but safety should always be a priority, especially if you're traveling alone. Hotels are generally secure, but taking extra precautions can ensure a worry-free stay. Here are some tips to keep yourself safe in your hotel room:

1.  Avoid the Ground Floor

While the ground floor offers convenience, it also poses a higher risk for unwanted attention or break-ins. Request a room on a higher floor unless you have specific needs that require a ground floor room.

2. Check Your Room

When you first enter your room, keep the door propped open while you inspect the space. Check common hiding spots like behind the shower curtain, under the desk, in closets, and behind curtains. Keeping the door open allows for a quick exit and ensures others can hear you if you need to call for help.

3.  Check the Phone

Hotel mobile connectivity can sometimes be unreliable. Make sure the room phone works so you can reach the front desk quickly if needed.

4.  Put Your Suitcase at the Door

Position your suitcase in front of the door on the side where the locks are located. This can prevent anyone from tampering with the lock from the outside. Additionally, the suitcase will create noise, alerting you to any attempts to enter.

5.  Leave your TV on

Although conserving energy is important, leaving the TV on when you leave your room can create the illusion that someone is inside. The presence of a person is one of the strongest deterrents for potential thieves.
