Staying Safe inYour Hotel Room: Part 2

Traveling is an adventure, but safety should always be a priority, especially when you're traveling alone. Here are five more essential tips to keep you safe in your hotel room:

1.  Cover the Peephole

Light from inside your room can cast shadows, allowing someone to peek through the door's peephole and see if someone is inside. If the peephole doesn’t have a built-in cover, use a piece of tissue to block it.

2.  Listen for your Room Number

When checking in, pay attention to how your room number is communicated. If the front desk announces it aloud, request a different room and key. This precaution prevents anyone in the lobby from knowing your room number.

3.  Use the Hangers

If your room’s HVAC unit is under the window or the curtains won’t stay closed, use hangers from the closet. The clips can hold the curtains together, ensuring your privacy.

4.  Check the Adjoining Door

If you have an adjoining room, it’s an additional entry point. Ensure it’s locked on your side and place a suitcase or chair in front of it. This way, you’ll hear if someone tries to open the door.

5.  Count Doors

Familiarize yourself with the number of doors between your room and the emergency exit or stairs. In case of an emergency where visibility is low, this knowledge can save you precious time.
